Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Marine Mechanic to support maintenance, repair, and overhaul of mechanical systems in a shipyard environment. The ideal candidate has strong experience working with industrial or marine equipment and is capable of diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical systems on vessels and related equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair marine and industrial mechanical systems
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on shipboard equipment and machinery
- Work on engines, pumps, compressors, valves, and hydraulic systems
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble mechanical components as required
- Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and mechanical drawings
- Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments
- Assist with system testing, alignment, and operational checks
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and shipyard procedures
- Coordinate with electricians, pipefitters, and other trades as needed
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of experience as a mechanic in marine, shipyard, or industrial environments
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and diesel equipment preferred
- Ability to read technical drawings and service manuals
- Experience using diagnostic tools and precision measuring equipment
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 10 Maritime (preferred)
- EPA or EPA-related mechanical certifications (a plus)
- Manufacturer or marine engine certifications (preferred but not required)
Work Environment
- Shipyard, dry dock, and onboard vessel environments
- Exposure to confined spaces, heavy machinery, noise, and outdoor conditions
- Physically demanding role requiring lifting, bending, and extended work periods
- Strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE requirements
