Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Welder (Combo with Shipfitter experience) to support structural fabrication and ship repair operations in a fast-paced shipyard environment. The ideal candidate will be skilled in both welding and structural fitting, capable of working from technical drawings and delivering high-quality workmanship in compliance with industry and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural welding using SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes
- Fit, align, and assemble ship structural components according to blueprints and specifications
- Read and interpret welding symbols, shipyard drawings, and fabrication plans
- Prepare, cut, grind, and position metal materials for welding and installation
- Perform tack welding and final welding on structural assemblies
- Assist with layout, installation, and repair of ship structures
- Conduct visual inspections of welds and ensure quality compliance
- Follow all NAVSEA, OSHA, and shipyard safety standards
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of experience in shipyard welding and shipfitting
- Proven ability to work in a combo welder/shipfitter role
- Strong blueprint reading and fabrication drawing interpretation skills
- Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments
Preferred Certifications
- AWS Welding Certification
- OSHA 10 Maritime (or higher)
- Confined Space and Hot Work certifications (a plus)
Work Environment
- Shipyard, dry dock, and industrial settings
- Exposure to confined spaces, elevated work areas, and varying weather conditions
- Physically demanding role requiring lifting, bending, and prolonged standing
- Strict adherence to safety and quality procedures is required
